Madagascar And Agbo Jedi.

Ideas are amazing things. An idea can make your life, and an idea can ruin it. So choose your ideas wisely.

. . .

And that's a bit of aspiring to perspire agenda for you. Did it make you cringe? Did you fall asleep reading that first paragraph? I certainly while did writing it.

So what's this article about? Everything and nothing, to be honest. In fact, at this point, and I kid you not, I do not know what the body of this work will look like. I could write about Covid-19, but that would be depressing. I could write about Christianity and my love for everything Abrahamic, but that would be boring. I could say something about gender wars, but I do not, as of right now, have the strength to defend my controversial takes.

Well, a little bit of depression hasn't killed anyone.

Oh, it has? Sucks, then.

So, let's talk about something that's threatening to even kill more people this year than depression. And that's, you guessed it, good Ole Covid-19.

This morning, news got out that Senegal had developed a $1 Covid-19 testing kit (although the process is still being perfected), and that Madagascar had already started distributing homemade herbal mixtures that could prevent Covid-19.

Of course, this got a lot of people irate. They began to wail and curse on Twitter, saying that Nigeria is a cesspool of terribleness for not making notable strides in her fight against Covid-19.

However, there are a few things we must consider, in order to avoid looking like buffoons. Senegal is an outlier and not the norm. The country has the third-best recovery rate in the world, and most of that is due to its vast experience with infectious diseases. In dealing with coronavirus, Senegal has been more proactive than most of Africa, and they deserve kudos for that.

However, the Madagascar situation is a bit dicier. WHO has warned that no medicine, traditional or not, has proven efficacy against Covid-19. Invariably, that means the "cure" being distributed on the streets of Madagascar is no more than Agbo Jedi.

Now, how would you feel if Buhari did that?

We must remember that in our war against this deadly virus, there are no easy answers, no shortcuts, and no size fits all solution. Our country is rather broke, so we will not be able to take steps that other countries like South Africa and even Egypt can take. Although I hate Sinzu money as much as the next guy, I don't see a clear way out of this problem. Or do you? If you were Buhari, what would you do differently?

But forget all these. Our Jollof is sweet though, so that must count for something.
So that's if. I've said it with my chest.

  1. I concur. Bubu may be a clown, but it's better than pretending to create cures just to attract media attention.

  2. I am not going to pretend that I am sure I would handle things better if I was BuBu, so I'll just come back to read comments. I love, love, love the ending. And yesssss, it counts for something in these Buhari times! 😂

  3. The truth has not been put in better, and more humorous words😏. If the cure for corona virus is Agbo Jedi, I am doomed! My parents must not see this😪. BuBu just lost his mushy bear, so he's unavailable for now. One question though, where is Osinbajo?
PS: This is a great piece. Keep up the amazing work!

  4. Our country is not broke, the money is just in one person's daddy's pocket (haq). But then we had every chance to prevent this thing from entering Nigeria and we failed. Now we can only look up to God. On the bright side tho, I heard we are now making our own ventilators. At least Nigeria is producing something that is not rice 😂. This covid thing has it's pros and cons sha.

  5. While this is a great write up, here's the thing or here are the things. Leadership isn't only about solving the problem, I mean, it is about solving the problem but it should also include your ability to understand the problem and show the electorate that you get the problem, you are working to solve the problem and that you definitely care about them. Before I long this talk, our country isn't broke but let's say we are broke too, the situation hasn't been handled effectively. Funds have been donated and a farce of fire outbreak came up, Nigeria, c'mon, we know this theatric. To have asked how I would handle this situation could be likened to asking me how responsible I could be and I feel, pretty much responsible. I definitely won't go live to talk to my people reading from a paper. Yo! It is a pandemic, my country is on lockdown and definitely the economy is pretty much going down the drain. The reason why Nigeria can't take the steps other countries are taking is accumulative. South Africa or Senegal didn't just get there, it was step by step. But Nigeria doesn't even do much for the educational sector. Owes salaries of health workers (and we finna blame them for trying to use this pandemic to get what they deserve?). Harrasses youths and labels those who are trying to make it "Yahoo Yahoo Boys." Let's not leave out threatening of journalists on days that they expose how rotten Nigeria has gotten. So. If I was Buhari (ughhhh, terrible thinking about this but it is what it is) but if I was, I would have ensured citizens have gotten their own share to stay sane during this lockdown (I mean, they can't feed on sand.). I would have also ensured that the borders got closed ever since (yawl travelling out could stay there, get tested and get treated, don't come put a whole lot of stress on my neck, I don't even blame them for travelling out but stay there, dears). I would have also ensured health personnel weren't treated like individuals of no importance because we can see that getting out of this is in their hands and really, that's IMPORTANT. And definitely as Buhari, I wouldn't have that flock of non-caring individuals as ministers (I am sure my friends won't exhibit any sort of national stupidity and they won't be carrying out any of the dramas these people be acting). So. Let's just say the problem with Nigeria now and the solution isn't one that suddenly could have been gotten when the pandemic hit us, we have always known that lots of our leaders shouldn't be in power but the pandemic just took off all the canopies they been hiding under. Nah. Can never be me! And just before anyone tells me "you wouldn't know because you aren't in his shoes," you need to justify this by showing that there isn't a single president out there managing this pandemic or there isn't a single president of a third world country doing its best to beat Ms. Rona.

    1. Your solutions would be great, if Nigeria weren't broke. Which, sadly, we are.

  6. I don't think there is any research whatsoever going on about this virus in Nigeria, the best we've done so far is wait for test kits, this is so wrong, we claim to be one of the best countries in Africa, even getting palliatives to citizens to ensure compliance with the lock down is becoming a big task. We are really not doing anything spectacular about the situation. So pathetic.

  9. A lot of people seem to disagree about the fact that Nigeria is a broke country.
Corruption or not, we are a broke(n) giant. Our GDP as a country is LESS than the GDP of California. Yeah yeah!! And Nigeria has a population of over 200million.
And the bad thing about being poor is that we don't even realise it because by nature we are a proud nation.
Truth is we need correct money rituals in this country.

  10. Fantastic bruv, Bubu is trying I'll say subjectively but he can do better. The masses of people are not able to feed and palliatives are not getting to them , it's worse that the so called palliatives are even the expired ones. It ought not be. If the population is controlled I believe we're good to go but only food &money can.
Researches are going on in the country definitely both private and governmental institution but we disregard our own efforts and embrace the foreign.

  11. The way you started this write-up made me wanna request for a post that is just like that. Just randomly write about the different shards of imaginative glass passing through your mind with little to no connection. It's odd but it can be amusing as well. I do look forward to a post like that
